Losing my mum made me feel like my world had ended-Bahati

“Aspiring Mathare Member of Parliament, Bahati, has narrated how the death of his mum affected him.
Bahati said that despite the death happening years ago, he still has not healed enough to talk about it.
Telling his story through his wife’s (Diana Marua) YouTube channel, he shared,
“I was born in Mathare, at Pumwani hospital. My parents at the time lived in Huruma. I studied in Mathare. I will not lie, it is not for the sake of the cameras but I have seen the good and the bad times of Mathare.
That was the only home I knew, unfortunately when I was in Nursery that is when I lost my mum.
I was going to Class 1. On 25th for a moment I thought my life had come to an end, losing a mum changes everything.”
Bahati says he could not fathom being left upcountry.
“Most of the kids who had lost their parents had been taken upcountry. I was to be left in Ukambani. We were poor and my dad couldn’t afford a house help.
We lived as 2 families in one room. I cried a lot during the burial as I did not want to be left in Ukambani. When they were coming back after the burial I hid in the car that had carried the body.
When I came back I started living with a neighbor.”
Bahati later joined a children’s home, and like they say the rest is history.
