Former KTN journalist Lindah Oguttu has weighed in on the growing disagreements within the United Opposition after Wiper leaders threatened to walk away from the coalition.
Oguttu shared her reaction on X on Tuesday, November 3, while responding to an NTV Kenya report about Wiper’s concerns over what its members described as disrespect from other opposition partners.
“Hii maneno ya opposition ni ngumu,” she wrote, using a Swahili phrase that translates to “This opposition matter is difficult.” Her brief comment attracted attention as political disagreements continued to emerge among leaders preparing to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
The dispute centres on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s position within the opposition arrangement. Party officials from the Coast region have insisted that Kalonzo should receive the coalition’s presidential ticket, warning that Wiper could pursue its own candidate if another leader is selected.
The officials have also rejected suggestions that Kalonzo should settle for a running mate position. They argue that the former Vice President has remained in opposition politics for years and should receive recognition for his role in the coalition.
Their position has raised questions about whether the different parties can agree on a common presidential candidate without losing members. Other opposition figures, including Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i and Justin Muturi, have also expressed differing views on mobilisation and the coalition’s political direction.
Oguttu’s reaction came as Kenyans followed the exchanges between opposition leaders, with discussions focusing on unity, leadership and competing presidential ambitions. However, her post did not offer a detailed position on which side she supports.
Wiper had not announced a final withdrawal from the coalition by the time of the reported exchange. The party’s next steps will depend on discussions among opposition leaders and whether they can address its concerns before the 2027 election.
