New Lilian Nganga

Lilian Ng’ang’a described a turning point in her life when she chose to end her marriage with Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and later wed Nairobi rapper Juliani.

She had met Alfred Mutua in 2011, at the age of 25, just as he assumed office as Machakos Governor. Stepping into the role of county First Lady, Lilian undertook public duties alongside him.

As she neared her thirties, Lilian began to sense that something fundamental was lacking. Despite enjoying the prestige of her position and the stability of family life, she questioned whether her own aspirations were being sidelined.

Frequent disagreements emerged over personal priorities and the direction of her public involvement. These clashes highlighted the gap between her search for independence and the expectations that accompanied her title.

In late 2020, Lilian entered a period of focused self-reflection. She withdrew from some ceremonial responsibilities and sought the counsel of close friends in Nairobi’s civic circles. This pause allowed her to assess the life she had built and the person she had become.

It was during this interval that she met rapper Juliani, whose creative outlook resonated deeply with her evolving sense of purpose. Their conversations spanned music, social activism and personal growth. A bond formed organically around shared values rather than public roles.

The divorce from Mutua became official in 2021. Lilian approached the process with discretion, ensuring that their separation remained free of public acrimony. Both parties committed to maintaining mutual respect.

By mid-2022, Lilian and Juliani had welcomed their son. She describes motherhood with Juliani as an experience marked by freedom and mutual support. This contrasted sharply with the obligations she once bore as First Lady of Machakos.

Today, Lilian views her journey as a testament to embracing change. She credits the transition for opening a new chapter defined by personal fulfilment and emotional balance rather than ceremonial acclaim.
