New Lilian Nganga

Former Machakos First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a has opened up about a dark chapter in her past, recalling the painful experience of dating a toxic man who physically assaulted her. Speaking candidly, she revealed that one incident still stands out in her memory—when the man she trusted raised his hand against her.

Ng’ang’a said the experience left her both emotionally and physically scarred, but it also became a turning point in her understanding of self-worth and the importance of walking away from violent relationships. She described the relationship as not only physically abusive but also mentally draining, marked by manipulation and lack of respect.

While recounting her story, Ng’ang’a urged those in similar situations to prioritize their safety and dignity. She emphasized that love should never come at the cost of one’s peace or well-being. According to her, staying in such a relationship only emboldens the abuser while stripping the victim of confidence and freedom.

“Do not let anyone make you feel small or powerless,” she advised. “If someone hits you once, chances are they will do it again. You deserve love that uplifts you, not one that breaks you.”

Her powerful testimony resonated with many, particularly women facing similar struggles but afraid to speak out or leave. She encouraged victims of gender-based violence to seek support from family, friends, and organizations dedicated to helping survivors rebuild their lives.

Ng’ang’a’s openness highlights the ongoing need to address domestic violence in Kenya, where countless cases go unreported. By sharing her story, she hopes to inspire courage in those suffering in silence and remind them that walking away is not weakness—it is the first step towards healing and reclaiming one’s life.
