Gem Muhoozi

Gen. Kainerugaba Muhoozi, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Ugandan army, posted photos of his son in a military uniform and with a gun, alongside two British army nationals.

In the post, Gen. Muhoozi stated that his son is currently undergoing military training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) located in Berkshire, England.

For those who may not know him, Ruhamya Kainerugaba is the son of Muhoozi Kainerugaba and a grandson of Yoweri Museveni and Janet Museveni.

His father, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is one of the most powerful military figures in Uganda and has often been viewed as a possible future political successor to President Museveni.

Ruhamya has generally stayed away from public political activity and media appearances and is seen only in public functions where his father is around.

Ruhamya gained wider public attention in 2025 after photos circulated online showing President Museveni spending Easter with children and grandchildren, including Ruhamya.

A fake X (Twitter) account pretending to be him appeared online sometime ago, but people close to the family clarified that Ruhamya did not have an official X account.

In July 2025, Gen. Muhoozi announced publicly that Ruhamya had joined the Uganda People’s Defence Force as a private soldier.

Muhoozi posted that “God has blessed the House of Museveni with another soldier.”

Reports described Ruhamya as part of a third generation of the Museveni family entering military service.

Many speculate that he may follow in his father’s footsteps by permanently joining the army rather than seeking other professional employment opportunities.
