Singer Bahati took his wife Diana Marua through a village test at his rural home in Wote, Makueni County. The video was shared on his page on Wednesday, September 2.
The clip showed the couple at his family homestead, with mud walled houses, dirt paths and an ox drawn cart. Bahati called it a wife material challenge.
He said he wanted to confirm whether Diana was truly ready for marriage before proceeding with wedding plans. He then handed her a panga and sent her to collect firewood from the bush.
Diana carried the wood on her head and loaded it onto an ox drawn cart. She then headed to an open kitchen to start cooking.
The smoke from the fire got to her at one point, forcing her to remove her wig as tears rolled down her cheeks. Still, she pushed through and chopped sukuma wiki.
She prepared a large pot of ugali using Kavagara maize flour. She then served the meal with vegetables and meat.
One moment that stood out was when Bahati’s relatives scooped brown water and told Diana that was what the family drank. She looked visibly shocked by this.
After the meal, Diana knelt and washed the hands of Bahati and his grandfather as they sat beneath a tree. The gesture clearly touched the elderly man.
At the end of the visit, Bahati announced that his grandfather had given his blessing, declaring Diana officially wife material. He said he would begin organising their wedding.
The couple already share three children together, a detail many fans found amusing given the timing of the test. Kenyans reacted with a mix of admiration and humour online.
