Lawyer Levi Munyeri has confirmed that he has been instructed to represent the minors accused in connection with the tragic arson incident at Utumishi Girls Academy, which resulted in loss of life and widespread damage.
In a statement shared on his X account, Munyeri expressed his condolences to the families affected by the fire, describing the incident as deeply tragic and unfortunate.
He also emphasized the legal principle that the accused persons remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
“I have been asked to represent the minors accused of causing the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls. My deepest condolences to the affected families. The minors are innocent until proven otherwise,” he stated.
The lawyer further raised questions regarding the evidence expected to be relied upon by the prosecution, particularly CCTV footage linked to the incident.
He suggested that the admissibility and reliability of the CCTV evidence could be contested during trial, indicating that the defense may challenge how the footage was obtained, preserved, or interpreted.
Eight students have been arrested in connection with the deadly arson attack that claimed the lives of 16 students and are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges.
