A woman from Lamu has moved to the Kadhi’s Court claiming that her husband failed to fulfil his marital obligations on their wedding night, alleging that he instead spent the night chewing muguka.
According to court documents, the woman identified as AHO told the court that she entered into the marriage with high expectations following what she described as a glamorous Islamic wedding ceremony.
However, she claimed that shortly after the celebrations, her husband, identified as MNO, left her alone and devoted the night to chewing muguka rather than spending time with his new wife.
The woman told the court that the incident left her disappointed and raised concerns about the future of their marriage. She argued that the husband’s actions amounted to a failure to meet expectations associated with the union.
The matter is now before the Kadhi’s Court, which handles disputes involving personal and family matters among Muslims. The identities of the parties have been withheld in court records through the use of initials to protect their privacy.
The case has attracted public attention because of the unusual circumstances described in the proceedings, with many residents closely following the developments.
The court is expected to hear both sides before making a determination on the dispute.
