A person who was almost lured into joining the Shakahola cult has recently shared her experience from a few years ago. The individual, who is currently studying clinical medicine at Kenyatta University, expressed concern that her mother may have fallen prey to the cult’s tactics. She explained that Mackenzi, who was familiar with her mother, persuaded them to shun the so-called “evil Babylonian system” and claimed that education was a worldly pursuit that would bar them from entering the kingdom of God.
Her mother was willing to follow Mackenzi’s teachings and abandon everything else. However, the individual found Mackenzi’s words to be nonsensical and decided to flee from the cult. She was rescued by the principal of Kaaga Girls, who supported her education and provided her with everything she needed.
The individual shared that her mother even threatened to disown her if she refused to join the cult, which resulted in her leaving her family and continuing her education until she reached university. She is troubled by the possibility that her mother could be a victim of the cult.
