Kisii County Woman Representative Dorice Donya has addressed circulating photos depicting her in what critics have labeled a “controversial dressing code.”

The images, which appear to show inconsistencies in her appearance particularly regarding breast symmetry have fueled speculation that the legislator occasionally forgoes wearing bras, leading to accusations of indecency and calls for her to adhere to more conservative standards.

The controversy erupted this week when photos of Donya surfaced online, with one viral post on Facebook highlighting her “different breast sizes” and suggesting she “forgets to wear fake bras.”

Netizens quickly piled on, debating the appropriateness of a public figure’s attire and linking it to broader discussions on women’s clothing choices in Kenyan politics. Some commentators accused her of setting a poor example, while others defended her right to personal comfort.

Donya, known for her outspoken nature on women’s issues, did not shy away from the backlash. In a Facebook post she directly responded to a related audio clip that had been making the rounds, stating:

“I’ve listened to this clip, and honestly, let me speak for many of us women: underwear and bras are often the most uncomfortable clothes to wear. So, no one should apologize for being comfortable.” Her words were reposted by media outlets, amplifying the conversation and drawing both support and criticism.

Supporters praised Donya for challenging societal norms that pressure women into uncomfortable clothing for the sake of appearance. “She’s speaking truth—why suffer in silence?” one commenter wrote on the reposted statement.

Others referenced historical and cultural contexts, with one user humorously noting, “That was the original design at the Garden of Eden until you guys decided to get some lunch from the Serpent.”
