According to Hon. Kiraitu Murungi, a former governor of Meru, President William Ruto is projected to garner support from the Mount Kenya region in the 2027 election. During President Ruto’s development trip of Meru on December 7, Murungi expressed confidence in Ruto’s leadership abilities and reaffirmed the region’s support for him.
Murungi told a big gathering that “Meru is with President William Ruto till further notice.” He praised the president’s efforts to address the difficulties facing the local population, as well as his commitment to development. Murungi, on the other hand, took use of the opportunity to openly criticize some Kenya Kwanza officials and advise them to put development ahead of early political campaigns.
He observed that the public’s displeasure with divisive speech and early electioneering was increasing. “Kenyans are growing tired of leaders engaging in early campaigns and politics that can be interpreted as tribal,” the president stated. Local officials and locals welcomed President Ruto’s visit to support several area economic projects. As part of his effort to restore the region, the president has promised to boost infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
