Samidoh Mucgoki

Kakamega County Senator,Honourable Bonny Khalwale, has weighed in on the decision by celebrated Mugithi star Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, popularly known as Samidoh, to step down from the National Police Service (NPS).

Through his official X account, Senator Khalwale described the move as a wise decision, remarking simply that “It is a good move.”

His sentiments echoed the views of many Kenyans who believe that the musician’s growing fame and international reach in the Mugithi music scene demanded his full dedication.

Samidoh, who has been serving as a police constable for the past 12 years, officially tendered his resignation, which took effect on July 20, 2025.

His exit was confirmed by the Inspector-General of Police, Douglas Kanja, who revealed that the service had accepted Samidoh’s resignation letter without objection.

“We accepted his resignation letter, and I can tell you he is free to do the things that he wishes and loves,” IG Kanja stated.

The decision brings an end to what many have described as a controversial but inspiring chapter in Samidoh’s life.

For more than a decade, he managed to balance the demands of being a law enforcement officer with his passion for music, often performing at concerts and even touring abroad while still serving in uniform.

This dual role sparked public debates, with some questioning whether it was possible for him to effectively discharge his duties as a police officer while pursuing a blossoming entertainment career.

Despite the criticism, Samidoh’s rise as one of the most sought-after Mugithi artists in Kenya and beyond remained unstoppable.

His music has filled stadiums, entertained diaspora communities, and introduced the Mugithi genre to new audiences. By choosing to now focus entirely on his artistry, many observers feel that he is setting himself up for even greater success.

Senator Khalwale’s endorsement of the move underlines the growing recognition of music and art as powerful career paths in Kenya—ones that can rival, or even surpass, traditional professions.

Samidoh leaves the police force with his legacy intact, not just as a man in uniform, but as an artist who managed to inspire countless young people to chase their passions despite societal expectations.

His resignation marks the beginning of a new chapter—one where music, culture, and entertainment will take center stage in his life.
