The President of Comedy His Excellency Eric Omondi always complain about promoters undermining Kenyan artists and giving foreign artists good opportunities.
Before Ruger performed in Kenya, Eric said that foreign artists are now performing in our villages. But many thought he was clout chasing. Another incident is during the election campaigns, politicians invited foreign artists to perform and paid them good cash. For example, Mbilia Bel and Diamond Platinum performed in the Azimio Rallies and were paid not less than a million shillings. The Zabron Choirs from Tanzania as well who performed during the Inauguration of Dr William Ruto, during their interview said that they were paid well.
Nigerian artist Ruger in his performance managed only 38 minutes and was paid Kshs 3.6 million. This is not the first time as well. I remember Tekno Miles performed for 26 minutes drunk and was paid 2.7 million. Kenyatta Hill performed in Kibera during Mariga’s Rally for 9 minutes and was paid 5 million. Like where did we go wrong?
