Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has attracted mixed reactions online after sharing a video of herself dancing in her office, with Kenyans responding through jokes, teasing remarks and questions about her duties.
Some social media users turned the video into a source of humour, while others questioned whether such activities were appropriate for a public office.
Baba Dylan joked about the senator’s weekend plans, writing, “weekend inadonjo na room 360. William is the man of the match”.
Another user, Dexter Phiri, jokingly asked on behalf of a neighbour, “Senator, my neighbor is asking ATI are you single?”
Moresh Ronny also joined the conversation, saying, “Nitumie fare nikam tuspend weekend together”.
Other users focused on the senator’s work and responsibilities.
One asked, “Which work does a nominated Senator do?” Another user, referring to a nominated MCA in Nyandarua, wondered, “Me asking in Nyandarua nominated mca wa, which job senator is”.
George Ochieng criticised the use of offices for activities aimed at gaining attention on social media, writing, “An office is now a field where we earn points on social media….I think those giving the opportunity should also give some rules”.
