Kenyans have come together to support a young boy who appealed to his father for help in settling his hospital bill.
The boy, known online as baby Trevor, is currently receiving treatment in hospital and is said to require surgery.
A video of Trevor speaking from his hospital bed went viral on social media after he pleaded with his father to help pay for his treatment.
In the video, the emotional boy said his mother was struggling financially and appealed to his father to intervene.
Trevor’s mother, Mary Wairimu, said she had used all the money she had to cater for her son’s medical needs.
She further claimed that Trevor’s father had blocked her contacts and was not contributing towards the child’s medical expenses.
The situation caught the attention of TikToker Chris Kirubi, who decided to mobilise Kenyans to help the family. Kirubi went live on TikTok and asked well-wishers to contribute towards Trevor’s hospital bill and surgery.
The appeal received a quick response, with Kenyans contributing more than KSh1 million within a short period.
Kirubi later said the fundraiser had collected KSh1.187 million in about one hour and 30 minutes. Trevor, who remained in hospital during the fundraising session, thanked Kenyans for supporting him.
The funds are expected to help meet his medical expenses as he continues with treatment.
