Kenyans online were touched by a viral video showing a woman caring for her Form Four daughter’s one-month-old baby as the young mother attended KCSE rehearsals.
A heartwarming video that has gone viral on TikTok has touched many Kenyans online, showing a mother’s unconditional love as she takes care of her Form Four daughter’s one-month-old baby while the young mother sits for KCSE rehearsals.
The video, shared by Shii wa Minaracoconut on TikTok, shows an elderly woman carrying a tiny baby wrapped in a shawl outside a school compound. According to the caption, the baby’s mother, who is a Form Four candidate, is inside the examination hall doing KCSE rehearsals, while her mother stands outside babysitting.
The young mother reportedly gave birth just one month ago but had to return to school to sit for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams which are crucial for her future. Her mother volunteered to bring the baby to school every day so she can breastfeed during breaks.
Kenyans in the comment section were moved by the grandmother’s sacrifice, with many praising her for not abandoning her daughter despite teenage pregnancy. Others encouraged the young mother to work hard and pass her exams to give her child a better life.
“This is true love. Many mothers would have chased her away, but this one chose to stand with her daughter,” one user commented. Another said, “May this girl pass and make her mum proud. Raising a baby and doing KCSE is not easy.”
The video comes at a time when KCSE 2025 rehearsals and exams are ongoing across the country, with many cases of pregnant candidates and young mothers sitting for exams being reported.
Education stakeholders have called for more support for teenage mothers in schools to ensure they complete their education without stigma.
The grandmother’s actions have been hailed as an example of family support and forgiveness, reminding society that education for girls should not end because of pregnancy.
Should teenage mothers be allowed to bring babies to school during KCSE. What should government do to support young mothers in school. Did this grandmother do the right thing.
