A Kenyan woman who jokingly took to social media to help her older brother find a wife has been left surprised by the overwhelming response.
Agatha Nkirote initially expected the video she recorded with her brother to attract some attention, but the response quickly exceeded anything she had imagined.
She later revealed that she woke up to more than 500 direct messages, with the number eventually passing the 1,000 mark across her social media accounts.
In the video, Agatha introduced her brother, who is in his late 30s, and appealed to Christian women who were ready for marriage to consider getting in touch.
She used plenty of humour while making her pitch, joking that her brother had taken too long to settle down.
Agatha also described him as a loyal man and playfully suggested that she was ready to “sell him off” because he needed to get married.
Her campaign was not only about finding a suitable partner.
Agatha joked that she was tired of preparing chapatis and mandazis for her brother and appeared ready to hand over those responsibilities to his future wife.
She said the family was open to women from different nationalities and claimed they were prepared to pay a substantial bride price, provided the wedding took place before the end of the year.
The social media campaign apparently worked far beyond what the siblings expected.
Agatha said her brother also received more than 1,000 messages, leaving the pair with the difficult task of going through the numerous responses.
She admitted that they had been serious about helping him find a partner but never imagined the post would generate such enormous interest.
With messages still being reviewed, Agatha and her brother now have plenty of potential introductions to consider.
