The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an updated weather forecast predicting an extended spell of cold temperatures, persistent light showers, and widespread cloud cover across Nairobi, Kiambu, and several other highland regions in central Kenya.

According to the advisory, the chilly conditions are expected to persist through the coming days, largely affecting early mornings and late evenings. Daytime temperatures in Nairobi are projected to remain low, hovering between 16°C and 22°C, while parts of Kiambu and Limuru may experience even lower readings.

“Cloudy mornings, light rains, and chilly winds will dominate much of the central highlands and the western slopes of the Rift Valley,” stated the Met Department. The public is urged to dress warmly and take precautionary health measures, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, who are more vulnerable to the cold weather.

In addition to Nairobi and Kiambu, counties such as Nyandarua, Murang’a, and parts of Nakuru are expected to experience similar conditions. Motorists are also advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility caused by mist and fog in the early morning hours.

Meanwhile, coastal regions including Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu will remain relatively warmer but may experience occasional showers and high humidity levels. The Met Department emphasizes that the current weather pattern is typical of the July-August season, often referred to as the “Kenyan winter.”

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with daily weather alerts and advisories through official Kenya Met channels. The department will continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates as necessary.
