Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza offered Kenyans a glimpse into her private life by sharing photos of herself herding goats within her beautifully maintained home compound, paved with cabros. The images, shared on Friday, April 18, showcased her in a casual look, wearing a cap and holding a herding stick, while interacting with one of her farm workers, seemingly reviewing the condition of her livestock.
This comes shortly after the High Court upheld her impeachment, with Justice Bahati Mwamuye ruling that the process leading to her removal was conducted lawfully.
Mwangaza had filed a petition challenging her ouster, citing a lack of fair hearing, procedural flaws, and insufficient public participation. However, the court found that due process had been followed.
Elected in the August 9, 2022 general election, Kawira Mwangaza made history as Meru County’s first female governor after securing 209,148 votes.
She defeated seasoned politicians, including incumbent Kiraitu Murungi and current Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi. Her election added her to the group of seven women governors popularly referred to as the “G7” which includes Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Gladys Wanga, Anne Waiguru, Cecily Mbarire, Fatuma Achani, and Wavinya
Before her rise to governorship, Mwangaza had contested the Buuri parliamentary seat in 2013 but was unsuccessful.
She later shifted focus to business, co-founding Baite TV with her husband, a musician.
In 2017, she won the Meru Woman Representative seat, unseating Florence Kajuju. During her time in Parliament, she built a strong grassroots following through impactful community initiatives.
