Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s “one term” attack on President Ruto during a Githurai rally went viral—but not for the reasons he expected. Misheard as “Kasongo Wantam,” the phrase has birthed a wave of remixes, music videos, and even TikTok anthems mocking the president’s tenure.
Within hours, creatives hit studios. Okoth Vicky dropped a Genge-inspired track titled Kasongo ni One Term, calling out failures of the Ruto regime, from Gen Z protest violence to economic frustrations. TikToker @Kamtuflani turned Gachagua’s raw speech into a bouncy Amapiano jam—with the ex-DP unwittingly starring as the lead vocalist.
Social media is ablaze. “Wakenya hawalalishi!” one user declared. Another joked, “Niko na mirista, nipee feature!”
Ironically, Gachagua’s political grievances may have handed Gen Z a new protest anthem—and handed Kenya its catchiest meme of 2025.
Will “Kasongo Wantam” go from hit song to rallying cry? Or is it just another flash in the meme pan? Stay tuned.
