A Saturday afternoon shopping trip at the busy Naivas Supermarket in Westlands, Nairobi, turned into an unexpected moment of drama for Jane Wanjiku, a 38-year-old mother of two.
Two years ago, her marriage of 15 years ended abruptly when her ex-husband, Eric, walked out on his family. He claimed she always looked “too tired” from balancing work, house chores, and raising their children. Soon after, Jane discovered he had left her for a 25-year-old woman.
“The divorce was painful, and for months I struggled to put my life back together,” Jane recalled with relief. “I decided to focus on myself, my children, and my peace of mind.”
While standing by the fresh fruit section on Saturday, Jane heard a familiar voice. Turning around, she came face-to-face with Eric—and his new partner. However, the scene was far from the blissful life he had envisioned. His young wife was loudly arguing with him over household spending, leaving Eric looking visibly overwhelmed, stressed, and far more exhausted than Jane ever was.
For Jane, the brief encounter brought complete closure, proving that moving on in peace is always the ultimate victory.
