Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement has received another boost in Western Kenya as influential leaders continue rallying support around his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The movement has been making efforts to strengthen its presence in the region, with Sifuna receiving warm receptions during recent political engagements. His supporters have increasingly presented him as a potential presidential candidate capable of offering an alternative to President William Ruto.

The latest show of support adds to a growing list of Western leaders who have publicly backed Sifuna. Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala have already called on leaders from the region to unite behind the Nairobi senator.

During Linda Mwananchi’s Western Kenya tour, leaders also urged opposition supporters to rally behind Sifuna’s presidential ambitions. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya publicly challenged the opposition to consider Sifuna as its presidential candidate, while Siaya Governor James Orengo criticised the Ruto administration.

The growing support comes at an important moment for Sifuna. Linda Mwananchi is seeking to transform itself from a political movement into a more organised national political vehicle ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sifuna has also insisted that the movement can accommodate different views among its leaders. He recently said disagreements should be resolved through consultation and should not be mistaken for a collapse of the coalition.

For Sifuna, stronger backing in Western Kenya could be particularly important because the region commands a large voting population. A strong base there would give his presidential campaign greater national credibility.

However, the movement still faces the challenge of expanding beyond Western Kenya and convincing voters in other regions.

As political activity intensifies, the warm reception Sifuna continues to receive will be closely watched. The bigger test will be whether that enthusiasm can translate into a united political base and eventually votes in the 2027 election.
