Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has attracted attention online after revealing the sizeable amount of pocket money she gave her 12-year-old daughter, Teana, ahead of her school trip to China.
Nyamu shared the revelation through her Instagram Stories, giving her followers a glimpse of the money she had given her daughter to use during her time in the Asian country.
Teana recently turned 12 and travelled to China alongside her schoolmates as part of the educational trip. Before her departure, her mother ensured that she had enough money to cater for her personal needs while away from home.
In the short video shared by the senator, Teana could be seen holding a collection of US dollar notes. The footage showed about 15 notes, each with a face value of $100.
This meant that the young girl was carrying approximately $1,500 in pocket money for the trip.
Nyamu accompanied the video with a playful caption in which she referred to her daughter and her “pocket money” for China.
The revelation quickly caught the attention of social media users, with many likely to be surprised by the amount given to a child for a school trip.
At the prevailing exchange rate referenced by Nyamu, $1,500 is equivalent to approximately KSh194,220, making it a substantial amount of spending money for the 12-year-old.
The senator had earlier shared moments from Teana’s birthday celebration before the youngster left for China. She explained that the birthday festivities were held a day earlier because her daughter was scheduled to travel for the school trip.
Teana is Nyamu’s first-born child, whom she shares with her former partner, DJ Saint Kelvin.
