Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has opened up about the plans she had for late singer Shalkido ga Cucu, sharing her grief over the musician’s sudden passing. In an emotional social media post, Nyamu revealed that she had purchased two brand-new motorbikes—one intended for Shalkido and another for a young person in need.
“I bought these for Shalkido. One for him and another for another youth. He never asked for a bike, he just needed help,” Nyamu wrote, expressing her heartbreak that the singer never got to receive the gift. The tribute highlights the senator’s quiet efforts to support young Kenyans trying to rebuild their lives.
Shalkido, who had been slowly restarting his music career, died in a tragic hit-and-run accident on October 5. The singer was hospitalized at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital with severe head injuries, internal bleeding, and a broken thigh before being pronounced brain dead the following day.
Fans, celebrities, and politicians flooded social media with condolences following Nyamu’s revelation. Many shared memories of the young musician and reflected on the fleeting nature of life. One fan wrote, “Unfortunately, we hustle so hard for a life that may end any time. Rest well, champ.” Another commented, “He was just getting back on his feet; this is so heartbreaking.”
Shalkido had previously received a motorbike from comedian Eric Omondi and had even reached out to former nominated senator Millicent Omanga for additional support to rebuild his career and explore alternative income sources. In the days leading up to his death, he had also discussed a possible music collaboration with singer Kevin Bahati.
Nyamu’s heartfelt post underscores the fragility of life and the importance of lifting up young talent. Through her gesture, she hoped to empower Shalkido and others like him, making his untimely death all the more tragic for the community.
