Kanini Kega has reacted after Katwa Kigen reportedly failed to declare his wealth during vetting for the position of Supreme Court judge.
Katwa Kigen appeared before the Judicial Service Commission today as part of interviews to fill a vacancy at the Supreme Court following the death of Judge Mohamed Ibrahim. During the session, Kigen allegedly did not provide details of his wealth declaration, an issue that quickly drew the attention of Kanini Kega.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Kanini Kega suggested that the omission could automatically lock Kigen out of the recruitment process since wealth declaration is a mandatory requirement.
“Interesting… automatically DISQUALIFIED!” Kanini Kega wrote in reaction to the reports.
According to updates by The Standard Group, Katwa Kigen explained that he believed the panel would rely on documents he had submitted earlier during interviews for the Court of Appeal judge position conducted months ago.
Kigen was among the 15 Court of Appeal judges approved and confirmed earlier this year. He is now seeking elevation to the Supreme Court bench following the vacancy left after Justice Mohamed Ibrahim’s passing.
However, his failure to declare his wealth during the ongoing vetting has sparked debate, with Kanini Kega maintaining that the omission could lead to his disqualification from the process.
