Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has criticised the decision to deny Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna an opportunity to speak at a senior assistant inspector general Lazarus Opicho burial ceremony in Bungoma, saying the senator deserved to be heard.

During his address, Natembeya also spoke about senior appointments in the police service, claiming he had played a role in Gilbert Masengeli’s appointment to a senior position.

The governor criticised regional leaders whom he accused of failing to support one another. He called for unity and urged politicians to put aside their differences when addressing issues affecting their communities.

Natembeya defended Sifuna, saying he deserved respect as a national political leader and should have been allowed to address the gathering.

Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, the governor called for a fresh discussion about the region’s political direction. He also expressed support for Sifuna as a potential presidential candidate.
