A family event linked to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has taken an unexpected turn online after his daughter-in-law, Doreen, attracted attention with her lively attempt at delivering a Kiswahili speech.
The moment happened during a school bus handover ceremony at Mama Pauline Kalonzo Girls High School in Kyuso, Kitui County.
The event was held as Kalonzo presented a new bus to the institution, which is named after his wife, Pauline Kalonzo.
Although the occasion was meant to focus on education and the school’s new transport support, Doreen soon became one of the most discussed people at the gathering.
When she took the microphone, Doreen introduced herself before explaining that she was also known as “Mama Pauline Mdogo.”
She went on to praise Kalonzo for his support of girls’ education, mentioning Mama Pauline Kalonzo School and Mama Malia School.
However, it was her accent and delivery that caught the attention of viewers. Her speech, which included several English words, quickly became a popular talking point after clips from the event circulated online.
At one point, she described herself as “royal” because of her connection to Kalonzo and Mama Pauline, a remark that added to the amusement among those watching the video.
Doreen also used the opportunity to promise additional support for the institution.
She said she hoped to help the school improve its toilet facilities and pledged to establish a grant while seeking funding for the school and Mama Malia School.
Her husband, Kennedy Kalonzo, who serves as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly, stood beside her during the address.
The school bus handover itself was part of Kalonzo’s stated support for education. During the ceremony, he said the vehicle would help students take part in activities and opportunities beyond the classroom.
