Lawyer Danstan Omari has sparked fresh political debate after suggesting that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka could become President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election.
Omari believes a possible political alliance between Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Azimio coalition could pave the way for Kalonzo to secure the deputy president position, marking a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape.
Speaking on November 1, 2026, the lawyer argued that changing political alliances could bring together leaders who previously occupied opposing sides of the political divide. He suggested that discussions and political realignments could eventually result in Kalonzo joining the ruling camp ahead of the next general election.
“Kalonzo is likely to be the next deputy president and running mate for UDA. We are seeing the old Azimio coalition of Raila Odinga joining with UDA,” Omari said.
His remarks have attracted attention because of the potential implications such an arrangement could have for the country’s political future. A partnership between UDA and leaders associated with Azimio would represent a major political development, particularly as parties and influential politicians begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.
