Lugari residents in Kakamega County have been plunged into deep mourning following a heartbreaking incident in which a two-year-old baby tragically lost their life after falling into a well.

The tragic event occurred earlier this week, leaving the community shocked and grieving.

According to eyewitness reports, the child was in the company of the mother at the time of the incident.

The mother, overwhelmed with sorrow, narrated that she had placed the baby down briefly as she went to hang clothes to dry, unaware it would be the last time she would see her child alive.

Moments later, she was met with the horrifying realization that her child had slipped and fallen into the uncovered well nearby.

“I only left him for a short while. I didn’t imagine anything bad would happen. I wish I had carried him with me,” the grieving mother shared tearfully, struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Efforts by neighbors to rescue the child were sadly unsuccessful, and the baby was confirmed dead at the scene.

Authorities arrived promptly, and the body was retrieved from the well and taken to the mortuary as burial plans begin.

The incident has sparked conversations around safety and the need to cover open wells in residential areas to avoid similar tragedies in the future.

Local leaders have also expressed their condolences and urged residents to remain vigilant, especially when children are nearby such hazards.

As the family mourns their heartbreaking loss, the entire Lugari community stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time.

May the soul of the innocent child rest in eternal peace.
