The legal battle surrounding Mukurweini MP Hon. John Kaguchia has taken a new twist after his lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, raised questions over the mysterious mention of the name “Kasongo” in documents presented before the court.
Njiru questioned why the name “Kasongo” appeared twice in the original Kikuyu write-up but only appeared once in the English translation prepared by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
“Kaguchia referred to Kasongo. In the Kikuyu write-up, the word Kasongo appears twice, but in the translation by the ODPP, the word Kasongo appears once. Where did the other Kasongo go, and who is Kasongo that Kaguchia referred to?” Njiru posed before the court.
The lawyer further demanded that the person referred to as Kasongo be made available in court so that the court and the public can establish his identity and understand the context in which the name was mentioned.
“Can Kasongo be available in court, so that we know who Kasongo is?” Njiru asked.
The name has attracted public attention, with political observers linking the term “Kasongo” to a nickname used by some critics and political opponents to refer to President William Ruto. However, the actual identity and context of the person mentioned in Kaguchia’s alleged statement remains a matter for the court to determine.
The defence team argued that clarifying the identity of “Kasongo” is crucial in understanding the meaning of the alleged remarks and ensuring that Kaguchia receives a fair hearing.
The case continues to draw political interest, with supporters of the MP maintaining that every detail in the evidence presented must be subjected to proper scrutiny before any conclusions are reached.
