High Court sitting in Nanyuki has convicted Jane Wanjiru Macharia for the murder of George Gachibi Karegwa, which occurred on 4th December 2018.
The court heard that on the night of the incident, the accused, accompanied by two accomplices, unlawfully entered the deceased’s residence, where they murdered him.The deceased, who was her former lover, was also robbed of personal effects, household items, and his motor vehicle.
In a statement released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the court found the woman guilty of orchestrating a deadly break-in at her former partner’s residence, where, along with two accomplices, she stabbed him to death and made away with his car, electronics, and other valuables.
The prosecution, led by Ms. Esther Kimani, painted a grim picture of a calculated crime — revealing that the accused was no stranger to the justice system. She was already serving three sentences for separate robbery convictions, with two more cases still pending.
Shockingly, the additional crimes were committed while she was out on bond for the ongoing murder trial, leading the court to revoke her bail.
The victim, who reportedly owned an entertainment joint in Nanyuki where the woman worked as a waitress, was found lying in a pool of blood on the morning of December 4, 2018.
Concerned employees discovered his body after he failed to answer calls or report to work. He had suffered multiple stab wounds, suggesting a violent struggle.
The motive for the murder remains murky, but unconfirmed reports hint at a personal dispute turned deadly. The killer and her accomplices were arrested the very next day by DCI detectives at a petrol station in Murang’a.
They were in possession of the deceased’s stolen vehicle and household items, sealing the prosecution’s case with damning evidence.
