The speaker of the national assembly hon Moses Masika Wetangula has this evening issued a notification to the members of the national assembly and the general public in relation to president William Ruto’s memorandum in respect of the finance bill 2024.
According to the information that have been relayed by the National Assembly, in the notification, the speaker has refered the memorandum to the departmental committee on finance and national planning.
The committee is therefore expected to expeditiously commence consideration of the presidential memorandum, its reservations and recommendations and report to the house at the next regular sitting upon its resumption.
President Ruto after failing to assent to the finance bill 2024 following the public outcry wrote to the national assembly through the speaker to reconsider the bill again by withdrawing it.
The constitutional of Kenya gives the national assembly of Kenya powers to formulate a bill, amend a bill where necessary and pass the bill after the amendments.The national assembly also has got powers to withdraw a bill in totality by the authority of the speaker in support of the majority members of the assembly.
