While debating the Money Laundering Bill in Parliament, Minority Leader Junet Mohammed seized the moment to react to the arrest and raid of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s home, where large sums of money were reportedly found.
Junet questioned why such an amount would be stored in a house instead of a bank, expressing disbelief over the reports. “Why would anyone stash millions in a sufuria in their home? That’s what is reaching Parliament,” Junet claimed, drawing laughter and shock from MPs.
He stated the discovery was a clear example of the urgency needed to pass the bill and tighten laws around illicit financial flows. Junet emphasized that Kenya must act decisively to stop corruption and money laundering that are hurting the economy.
He called on fellow lawmakers to pass the bill without delay, saying it’s the only way to ensure such incidents don’t keep repeating in the country’s leadership.
