Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i has received a group of politicians who have defected from various political parties in Kajiado County, in a move that could strengthen the party’s presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The defectors were received at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi City County on Friday, November 6.

The development comes as political activities continue to gain momentum across the country, with different parties positioning themselves for the next general election.

Matiang’i, who has been associated with the United Opposition’s efforts to challenge President William Ruto’s administration, has been working to strengthen Jubilee as the political contest approaches.

The arrival of new members from Kajiado County is another development in the party’s efforts to attract leaders and supporters from different political backgrounds.

Kajiado is among the counties attracting political attention because of its growing population and influence in national politics. The county also plays an important role in the wider political calculations of leaders seeking support across the country.

The latest defections come at a time when several political figures are making decisions about their political future, with alliances and party membership becoming important issues ahead of 2027.

Matiang’i has emerged as one of the leaders associated with the opposition’s efforts to build an alternative political force against the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Jubilee, which was previously the ruling party under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, is seeking to maintain its political relevance as the country moves closer to another election.

However, it remains to be seen whether the latest arrivals will translate into stronger grassroots support for the party in Kajiado County.

The reception also raises questions about whether more politicians from other parties could follow the same path in the coming months.
