Isiolo Governor has expressed deep sorrow following the killing of businesswoman Angelina Kananu, who was fatally shot in a suspected targeted attack in Isiolo Town last night.
In a statement, the Governor described the incident as “very unfortunate and heartbreaking” and said it has shocked the entire community.
According to preliminary reports, Ms. Kananu was attacked as she was closing her business premises.
Witnesses told police that the assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, trailed her before fatally shooting her and fleeing the scene.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic killing of Angelina Kananu, a businesswoman who was fatally shot in a suspected targeted attack in Isiolo Town last night. This is a very unfortunate and heartbreaking incident that has shocked our community,” the Governor said.
The Governor has urged security agencies to move with speed to establish what happened and bring the perpetrators to book.
“I strongly urge the security agencies to conduct swift, thorough and impartial investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime and ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. Criminal acts of this nature have no place in our society and must be met with the full force of the law,” the statement read.
He also called on Isiolo residents to remain calm and support police efforts.
“I appeal to the residents of Isiolo to remain calm, maintain peace and cooperate with the police by providing any information that may assist with the ongoing investigations. Let us stand together in support of justice and the safety of our community,” he added.
The Governor extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the family, friends, and loved ones of the late Angelina Kananu during this difficult time. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort and may her soul rest in eternal peace.”
Police in Isiolo have launched investigations into the murder. No arrests have been made so far.
