Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has criticized the conduct of police officers captured in a viral video showing a foreign national spitting at an officer in Kwale County.
In a statement shared on X, Ahmednasir expressed outrage over how the officers handled the situation, describing their response as weak and unacceptable.
“Look at these policemen being almost beaten by a white man in police remand. Inspector General of Police must interdict them immediately,” he wrote.
The video, filmed at Diani Police Station in Kwale County, shows a visibly intoxicated foreigner shouting and pacing inside the report office.
At one point, he appears to spit on one of the officers as two police officers — a male and a female — attempt to calm him down without using force.
According to police sources quoted in local reports, the suspect is a Dutch national who had earlier been involved in a violent incident at a hotel.
A woman was reportedly rescued from the scene and taken to hospital. Officers said a whitish substance suspected to be narcotics was also recovered during his arrest.
The man remains in custody as investigations continue, with police indicating he could face multiple charges including assault, creating a disturbance, and possession of suspected drugs.
The alleged narcotics have been sent to the government chemist for analysis.
