Prof George Magoha who died on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the Nairobi Hospital, was a man of many faces and a super achiever with lots of iron in the back.

He never suffered fools which is why many wouldn’t associate him with a band.During the peak of the Jerusalema dance craze in October 2020, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga, then-Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, and a host of other dignitaries attended a function in Kisumu.The Jerusalema South African dance challenge was performed and as all participants on the dais and the terraces danced along, Prof Magoha was rather unresponsive.

Magoha served the Association of African Universities in various leadership positions, spanning more than a decade, with extraordinary commitment and dedication to duty, in a manner which earned him the respect of many higher education stakeholders across the continent.

His words as captured in the AAU’s 50th Anniversary Brochure (produced in 2017), demonstrates his interconnectedness and the long-standing relationship with the Association’s leadership – ‘I have been a member of the AAU Governing Board from early 2005 to date [2017] having been elected at the Cape Town meeting.Long before assuming leadership positions at the AAU, Prof. Magoha was not a new face to the Association – ‘I am a beneficiary of the Inter-African Universities Program (INTERAF) which began in 1967 and was managed by the Association of African Universities

Magoha passed away leaving behind a legacy and a remarkable estate valued at Ksh 250 million, including his stunning mansion.

Magoha’s two-story home stands out with its elegant off-white facade that graces the upper floor, while the lower story features charming brown exposed brick, creating a striking contrast.

A well-designed balcony juts out from one end, allowing for breathtaking views and natural light to fill the space through strategically placed inlets.

The exterior of the mansion is adorned with manicured garden hedges that enhance its charm, complemented by a lush yard dotted with small trees.

This striking blend of modern architecture and natural beauty showcases Magoha’s appreciation for aesthetics and serenity. The entrance is accentuated by two tall palm trees that stand as sentinels, welcoming guests into the luxurious abode.

The design of the house reflects a commitment to both elegance and comfort. The first-floor living area opens to a balcony draped with ferns, creating a refreshing atmosphere.This seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces embodies the essence of tranquility, allowing residents to enjoy the surrounding nature.

Encircled by a beautiful glade of trees, the mansion is a sight to behold, easily visible from the gate. The white cherry walls rise above the tree tops, while weeping willows contribute to the compound’s serene ambiance.

The architectural elements include white-painted columns supporting a grooved roof that adds depth to the structure, while vertical glass panes and slatted blinds enhance the magnificent entrance and stairwell.
