Away from the busy streets of Nairobi, a unique accommodation in Siaya County is offering visitors an opportunity to experience traditional rural living at an affordable price of KSh3,000 per night.

The one-bedroom mud hut Airbnb, located near Ugunja, combines the simplicity of traditional African architecture with modern amenities designed to make guests comfortable during their stay.

Unlike conventional apartments and modern holiday homes, the property features mud walls and a rustic design that reflects an older style of construction. It is tucked between maize fields and bushes within a fenced compound, providing an environment suited for visitors seeking peace and quiet away from the city.

According to the property’s description, the accommodation is ideal for people looking to escape Nairobi’s hectic lifestyle and reconnect with nature.

Despite its traditional appearance, the mud hut offers several modern conveniences. The room is equipped with a television, radio, lighting and smartphone charging ports, ensuring that guests can remain entertained and connected throughout their stay.

The property relies entirely on solar energy to power its electronic devices, making it an environmentally friendly option for travellers interested in sustainable accommodation.

The one-bedroom unit can accommodate up to two guests, making it suitable for couples or individuals looking for a quiet getaway.

Visitors who prefer preparing their own meals can use the available gas stove and kitchen utensils. The hosts also offer breakfast and traditional meals upon request, with guests having the option of enjoying their food outdoors under a mango tree.

The property has been available for reservations since January 2022. Check-in is scheduled between noon and 6pm, while check-out takes place between 8am and 11am.

Families travelling with children can also consider the accommodation, as it is described as kid-friendly and features a spacious play area that doubles as parking space.

However, guests are not allowed to bring pets or smoke within the premises.

The cancellation policy requires guests to cancel at least 60 days before arrival to qualify for a full refund, while cancellations made at least four weeks beforehand attract a 50 per cent refund.
