The United Alternative Government-in-Waiting and the Linda Mwananchi movement are holding a joint media briefing at Hermosa Hotel in Karen, Nairobi, as opposition leaders continue efforts to build a common political front ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 3:45pm, according to a notice issued to accredited journalists by Paloma Gatabaki, Communications Lead at the SKM Command Centre.
The choice of Hermosa Hotel places the political meeting in one of Nairobi’s most affluent suburbs, where the venue offers the privacy and facilities required for a high-profile gathering.
Located in Karen, near Nairobi National Park and the Ngong Hills, Hermosa is designed around a boutique hotel concept, with several accommodation categories ranging from standard rooms and suites to a presidential-grade suite.
The property combines accommodation, dining and conference facilities, with landscaped grounds providing much of its distinctive character. It also has multiple dining and bar areas, while its wellness facilities include a swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms.
Its event facilities provide space for meetings and gatherings of varying sizes, making the hotel suitable for an event involving political leaders, party officials and members of the media.
The hotel’s accommodation is similarly designed for privacy and comfort, with selected suites featuring lounge areas, fireplaces, personal safes and bathrooms fitted with deep bathtubs.
For Wednesday’s political meeting, however, attention is likely to remain less on the hotel’s facilities and more on what the gathering means for opposition politics.
The meeting brings together groups that have been working to establish a broader political alliance under the United Alternative Government-in-Waiting, commonly referred to as ‘WANTAM’.
The platform has brought together several opposition parties and political movements seeking to present a united alternative to President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 election.
DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has previously said his side and Linda Mwananchi were working towards becoming one political team, describing the arrangement as part of efforts to offer Kenyans an alternative leadership option.
The breadth of the coalition is reflected in the parties listed on the notice for Wednesday’s briefing. They include Wiper Democratic Movement, People’s Liberation Party, Democracy for Citizens Party, DAP-Kenya, Democratic Party, Jubilee, Umoja na Maendeleo, BUS and PNU.
The Karen meeting also comes against the backdrop of renewed attention on the opposition alliance following violence at the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay days earlier.
The Homa Bay incident left one person dead and more than 30 others injured, adding another layer of urgency to discussions on the movement’s activities and the wider opposition strategy.
As leaders meet in Karen, the focus will be on whether the various parties and movements can translate their ongoing consultations into a coordinated political structure capable of sustaining a joint campaign into 2027.
The outcome of the meeting could provide further clues about the direction of the proposed alliance and how Linda Mwananchi fits into the wider opposition coalition taking shape ahead of the next General Election.
