Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has stunned many with a decision to lease and sell off his Volume VIP Club in Shanzu, Mombasa County, Kenya.

Sonko opened the club in late December 2021. And it has been a high-end luxury nightclub and entertainment venue in Kenya.

The club’s launch came after his 2020 impeachment as part of a shift into business and entertainment investments.

At the point of launching it, Sonko had positioned it as part of a multi-county nightlife expansion plan in Mombasa, Nairobi, Kilifi, Kwale, and Machakos.

The club was built on 1 acre of land and capable of holding a capacity of over 15,000 people.

The club also can accommodate over 150 vehicles with surveillance.

Despite it looking like only a typical nightclub, it is closer to a large entertainment complex designed to mimic Dubai-style luxury nightlife with Versace-themed walls & imported décor.

The club also has a bulletproof glass dance floor that moves slightly to create a floating effect.

It also has a soundproof VIP boardroom for meetings and partying.

The club stocks over 1,947 types of liquor that are usually imported.

The place targets celebrities, tourists, and high-spending clientele with 24/7 CCTV surveillance.

The club gained attention not just for luxury but also for some incidents that included viral claims of robbery and a drink-spiking case that Sonko denied happening.

Volume VIP Club is not competing with ordinary clubs. It’s positioned as a luxury destination nightlife brand, a celebrity attraction hub.

It is a statement project tied to Sonko’s personal brand with heavy capital investment and high operating costs, relying on high-spending clientele.
