Lilian Muli, one of Kenya’s most renowned TV journalists, first got married in September 2009 to Moses Njuguna Kanene.
The glamorous wedding at the Windsor Golf Hotel was the talk of Nairobi society, marking what looked like the beginning of a fairytale.
However, the marriage soon ran into stormy waters. By 2016, Lilian had filed for divorce, accusing her husband of cruelty, adultery, desertion, and violent behaviour.
The case was heard at the Milimani law courts, and the union that had once promised a happy-ever-after came to a painful end.
From that marriage, Lilian had her firstborn son, Joshua Munene, born in 2010.
She has often expressed how becoming a mother at that stage of her life gave her purpose and strength even as she faced the turbulence of her marriage.
After her divorce, Lilian dedicated herself to raising Joshua while keeping her career at Citizen TV at the peak.
Some years later, Lilian entered into a relationship with businessman and Shabana FC chairman Jared Nevaton Ombongi. Together, they welcomed her second son, Liam Francis, in 2018.
That relationship, too, was not free from drama, with public spats and reconciliations making headlines.
Eventually, Lilian clarified that they had settled into a co-parenting arrangement, choosing to focus on Liam’s wellbeing rather than the instability of their personal ties.
Today, in September 2025, Lilian remains unmarried. She is a proud mother of two boys from her two past relationships, and she is intentional about how much of their lives she reveals publicly.
She celebrates their milestones but shields them from constant online attention, emphasising that she wants them to grow up with as normal a childhood as possible.
Joshua, now 15, is blossoming into a young man, while Liam, just seven, is still in his playful years.
