Many people are shocked when media personality Ciru Muriuki tells them she is 44 years old.
Speaking on a podcast released on Friday, July 24, 2026, Ciru said the reaction she receives has made her realize that attitudes towards ageing have changed, especially among millennials.
According to her, today’s generation is not necessarily looking younger than previous ones, but many people are ageing with greater confidence and taking better care of themselves.
Ciru explained that millennials are changing the traditional image of what people in their 40s should look like.
She noted that many people now believe millennials are ageing more gracefully than earlier generations.
“I don’t think we necessarily look younger. We are simply ageing better and more gracefully,” she said.
The media personality added that she does not compare herself to Gen Z, but she is happy with how she looks at her current age.
“I won’t say I look younger than Gen Z, but I know I look good for my age,” she explained.
Ciru also reflected on how she viewed people in their 40s while growing up.
She admitted that, as a child, anyone in their 40s appeared much older than they actually were.
“Back then, when someone said they were in their 40s, it almost sounded like they were 90,” she recalled.
Today, however, she believes that perception has completely changed.
She joked that many people struggle to believe she is 44 because she does not fit the image they had of someone in that age group.
Using humor, she said people often expect someone in their 40s to dress and behave much differently.
Her comments have sparked discussion about how lifestyle, fashion, health awareness and confidence have reshaped perceptions of ageing.
For many millennials, growing older is no longer viewed as slowing down but as embracing experience while maintaining confidence and self-care.
