Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has blamed former Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the poor economic situation the country is experiencing. Speaking in kirinyanga on Saturday October 15th, Rigathi said Raila Odinga did not do his work as opposition leader during president Kenyatta tenure.

“If Raila had done his work to oversight uhuru’s government we wouldn’t have been where we are as a country. Now you are complaining that, the cost of living is high and you are the one who abandoned your role and left it to the thieves.” Rigathi Gachagua said.

Gachagua opined that, the cost of living rose because Uhuru’s government was not out in check by the opposition. Raila who was the leader of the opposition joined hands with former president Uhuru Kenyatta, and decided to work together.

William Samoei Ruto who was then the deputy president, felt sidelined and was not happy with the handshake and alleged that he was kicked out of the government. Ruto’s relationship with his former boss fell apart and he decided to serve Kenyans outside the government, but he never resigned.

This week ODM party leader Raila Odinga accused president William Ruto of lying to Kenyans that he will reduce the cost of living, once he gets into the office. Raila said that in the first 30 days in office, president William Ruto has not fulfilled any of his promises as the cost of basic commodities are still high.

He reminded William Ruto what he promised during his campaigns. William Ruto had promised that he will lower the cost of maize flour from 200 shillings to about 70 shillings.

The cost of 2 kg packet is still retailing at 200 shillings as Ruto removed the maize flour subsidies. Ruto stated categorically that his government will not subsidize consumption it will invest in production. He has then lowered the cost of fertilizers for farmers to increase production.
