Mama Ida Odinga was forced to address an anxious crowd at Migwena Cultural and Sports Ground in Bondo after supporters demanded to know the whereabouts of Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga during the first anniversary commemoration of Raila Odinga.
The situation briefly turned tense as passionate mourners drowned out the master of ceremonies with chants calling for an explanation over Oburu’s absence from the historic gathering.
Taking control of the microphone, Ida reassured the crowd about the condition of the veteran politician, saying he remained alive and stable despite ongoing health concerns.
According to Ida, Oburu had not been feeling entirely well, and medical specialists attending to him had advised him to take things slowly and avoid physically demanding public engagements.
Her remarks appeared to calm the agitated supporters, allowing organisers to resume the memorial proceedings.
The event brought together several prominent opposition leaders, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who witnessed the unfolding events.
Meanwhile, representatives were reportedly prepared to deliver a written message from Oburu on his behalf, ensuring his voice was represented during the solemn occasion.
The brief disruption highlighted the deep attachment supporters have maintained to the Odinga family as they gathered to honour Raila, who died on October 15, 2025.
