Senator Edwin Sifuna of Azimio was ejected from the Senate chambers today for failing to provide evidence to support his allegations regarding the Russian fertilizer that was being subsidised.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi revealed during his ruling today that while it is true that Kenya received free fertilizer, Senator Edwin Sifuna was unable to present sufficient proof that the fertilizer was the same as the one that was advertised as “subsidized.”

In response to the second claim, Speaker Amason Kingi declared that while Senator Edwin Sifuna provided data from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) regarding the default rate on commercial banks, it was categorically impossible to compare it with data on hustler fund loan defaults that was available separately to determine which was higher.

Sen. Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi was urged by the speaker to retract his remarks and offer an apology to the Senate, as he had not provided any evidence to support them.

“I proceed to caution as provided for in standing order 104(2) that failure to withdraw and apologize will result in senator Edwin Sifuna being deemed disorderly,” said Kingi.

In his reply, Edwin Sifuna refused to take back the remarks he had made on the house floor, stating that they were accurate and that he would be prepared to stick by the truth no matter what the consequences might be.

“Mr. Speaker, I’m going to die on this illness. My conscience is clear and my conviction is correct. I firmly believe that those sentiments are accurate, so I will not back down from them or offer an apology. Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi County said, “I would rather die on my truth.”

Edwin Sifuna was then given the order to leave the chamber by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.

The Speaker said, “Senate Edwin Sifuna, please leave the chamber.”
