Moses Kuria has been watching Rigathi Gachagua’s political comeback with quiet scepticism, and on Tuesday, May 19, he finally said out loud what many in the political class have been thinking behind closed doors.
Kuria put his own vote on the line, promising to cast it for the impeached former Deputy President if Gachagua proves him wrong by securing a spot on the 2027 presidential ballot. Gachagua’s name has dominated political conversations since his dramatic removal from office, and the former Deputy President has done everything in his power to ensure the noise around him does not die down.
He launched the Democracy for Citizens Party as his vehicle toward 2027, has been traversing the country meeting leaders at the grassroots level and working to lock down support in the Mount Kenya region where his influence remains considerable.
He has also taken his fight to the courts, mounting a legal challenge against his impeachment and making it clear to anyone paying attention that he does not consider the matter anywhere near settled.
