For some days now a story of a man called Wanyeki has been going viral, after it was exposed that he went to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He was sentenced after his seven years old daughter said that he raped her seventeen years ago, and he has been in prison ever since. Sometime back the girl came out saying that was not true, and she was forced to say that by her father’s elder brother and grandmother.
She explained what happened leaving Kenyans wondering about the credibility of Kenya judicial system. According to her, that time the mother was not around and they were living with their father. At thet time the father’s brother wanted to sell a piece of land which the father could not allow. So the brother went and lied to the grandmother that Wanyeki has been raping his children at night.
The grandmother was very angry and she reported the matter to the police station. They were told what to say by the grandmother and the father’s brother and since they were very young, they had to accept what they were asked to do. After the father was sentenced for life they were chased away from home and ended up in children’s home.
In class seven that was when she started asking herself questions about her father and their home. That was when she realized she was the main reason behind her father’s imprisonment. After class eight she decided to speak her truth and correct her wrongs. She went for an affidavit and that was when the case started again.
She said all she want is to meet the father, ask for his forgiveness and get the father’s love again. She concluded by saying that to date she is very guilty and she hopes he will be released very soon. Watch the full video below and share your views with us.
