Gachagua State

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made shocking claims about his fallout with President William Ruto.

In an interview on April 7, 2025, Gachagua revealed he secretly recorded conversations with Ruto during their disagreements.

Gachagua dismissed Ruto’s accusations that he demanded Ksh10 billion to step down. He said the president offered him Ksh2 billion instead, which he refused.

He shared how a community officer was sent to meet him and urge him to accept the resignation offer, but Gachagua stood firm.

The former deputy president went on to accuse Ruto of verbally abusing him during their discussions.

Gachagua claimed Ruto insulted him for questioning his methods and speaking out against his close aides.

These verbal attacks, Gachagua said, led to the eventual breakdown of their relationship.

On the matter of Ksh10 billion, Gachagua explained that Ruto used it as a political tactic to sway Mount Kenya voters.

He said Ruto spread the narrative to show Gachagua as someone trying to blackmail him.

Gachagua also revealed tensions with Ruto’s camp over political control.

He recalled advising MPs not to blindly support government projects, such as the Finance Bill.

This stance, Gachagua said, led to further labeling him as defiant by Ruto’s supporters.

The former deputy president also pointed to disagreements over the appointment of Permanent Secretaries as a key issue in their fallout.

Despite Ruto’s claims that Gachagua’s failure to support government projects caused the rift, Gachagua argues the real conflict was rooted in the political appointments.

The explosive revelations from Gachagua have deepened the political divide between the two leaders.
