MP Mwengi Mutuse, who tabled the impeachment motion that led to the successful removal of Rigathi Gachagua from the position of Deputy President, today addressed the matter during a fundraising ceremony in Trans Nzoia County.
Mutuse clarified that his move was not targeted at the Kikuyu community, but solely at Rigathi Gachagua as an individual.
“I only chased Rigathi Gachagua from government, not Kikuyus,” he stated firmly.
He added that Kikuyus are still part of the government and pointed out that the newly appointed Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, is also a Kikuyu.
Mutuse’s remarks come at a time when a section of the Kikuyu community has been expressing dissatisfaction with President William Ruto, accusing him of betrayal following Gachagua’s impeachment.
The MP emphasized that the impeachment should not be interpreted as a tribal or ethnic move but as a political decision based on Gachagua’s conduct and performance.
He called for national unity and urged leaders and citizens alike to avoid ethnic divisions.
The fundraising event, which attracted leaders from various parts of the country, turned political as attendees reacted sharply to the ongoing tensions between the presidency and some factions of the Kikuyu community.
