President William Ruto on Tuesday sparked excitement and laughter among residents of Dagoreti South after he sharply rebuked a driver who had parked a vehicle close to the dais where he was addressing members of the public.
The Head of State had just begun speaking when he noticed a car stationed a few metres from the podium, partially blocking the view of residents who had gathered to listen to him. Pausing briefly, President Ruto turned his attention to the vehicle and questioned why it had been allowed to remain there during a public address.
“I did not come here to speak to vehicles,” he said firmly, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd. “Remove that car so that wananchi can have space. I came to address the people of Dagoreti South.”
Security officers quickly moved to clear the vehicle from the area as residents erupted in laughter and chants of support. The spontaneous moment injected energy into the gathering, with many praising the President for prioritising ordinary citizens over protocol and convenience.
Throughout his speech, President Ruto emphasised the importance of public participation and direct engagement with citizens. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to listening to wananchi and ensuring that development projects reflect the needs of local communities.
The President also highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, creating employment opportunities for the youth, and strengthening social support programmes. He urged residents to continue working closely with national and county leaders to accelerate development in the area.
The brief but dramatic incident became the highlight of the event, symbolising what supporters described as Ruto’s hands-on leadership style.
